The Migratory Bird Sanctuaries along the Coast of Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China Phase I)was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2019.
Located in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province, the property features intertidal mudflats and other coastal wetlands. It boasts the world's largest intertidal mudflat system, serving as a hub of many migratory bird species that use the East Asian-Australasian flyway, (EAAF), which is the most threatened migratory flyway worldwide and boasts the largest number of endangered and critically endangered species. It also serves as a key stopover for millions of migratory birds worldwide to rest, moult, and winter. The area provides habitat for 23 internationally significant bird species and supports the survival of 17 endangered species listed on the IUCN Red List.
The property plays a crucial role in global biodiversity conservation and is renowned for its wetland landscapes, embodying the historical memory of Chinese civilization.
